CONFLICT RESOLUTION & RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT...

Appropriate Resolutions for life’s relationships.

One study at UCLA indicated that:

Up to 93 percent of communication effectiveness is determined by nonverbal cues.

 Another study indicated that:

7 percent of the impact was determined  by the words used,

38 percent by voice quality, and

55 percent by the nonverbal communication.

So if you care about outcomes, you will need to pay attention,
AND respond appropriately!

Sending a message is complicated by how you send (or throw) the words, especially given the tensions and stresses during conflictual interactions.

Language is complex; words mean different things to different people.  What is intended may be understood very differently when it is received and interpreted by another person. Misunderstandings often generate conflict, whether or not each person's interests (needs) differ or not. Add such an incompatibility to the communications conundrum and the conflict becomes that much more difficult to resolve.

Human communication has inspired a large literature and multiple fields of study. Throughout this site you will find communications-related and resolution-focussed tips and guidelines.

The main thing to consider and hopefully accept is about how hard it is for individuals to communicate especially in the heat ‘of battle’.

When feeling challenged, we should keep reminding ourselves about what we want to accomplish in the conversation and the relationship. You can only accomplish such a goal if you don’t judge those who mis-understand or mis-communicate.
